La lucha entre los habitantes del Sahel y los yihadistas. | Historias Vivas | Documental HD

Terrorist groups continue to extend their control over the Sahel, a region the size of Europe located south of the Sahara. Jihadist incursions occur daily, with terrorist attacks, murders, and looting in villages. The situation is becoming increasingly unsustainable. The armies of various African nations are fighting to maintain control over the most dangerous areas of the Sahel, resulting in large tracts of land without military presence. Additionally, the French have decided to reduce their military support in the region. As a result, the local population has been forced to take up arms to defend themselves. Our team traveled to central Mali, the heart of the Dogon people. There, they followed the Dan Na Ambassagou militia, composed of a thousand men equipped with very old weapons. This is how they confront Islamic extremists armed with Kalashnikovs and rocket launchers. These "dozo" warriors rely on their amulets, talismans, and traditional magical beliefs to win this war. They fight in temperatures of 45 degrees Celsius, with a shortage of water and food. But they are the last bastion of resistance for the 300,000 people still living on the Dogon plateau. Near Mopti, a city on the Niger River, we were able to interview four jihadists who had just deserted. Their testimony reveals the extremists' recruitment methods, as well as some surprising details about their lifestyle. We also visited Mauritania, a country leading the fight against terrorism. We had exceptional access to film a Mauritanian army operation led by the GSI, the Special Intervention Groups, which are the command units responsible for tracking jihadist cells on the border with Mali. A squadron of light aircraft acted as observers, tracking jihadist vehicles and then destroying them when they crossed the border. Mauritania also has a special police force that can reach the most remote parts of the territory. They use an unusual form of transportation: dromedaries! Colonel El-Khalil and his company of riders venture into the desert for several weeks to absorb the wisdom of the nomadic peoples. This film is an immersive journey into the growing threat of a jihad that knows no borders. This film was first released in 2021. --- Historias Vivas is home to the most incredible documentaries from around the world.
