2024: European Research Council Grants for Top Researchers from Anywhere in the World
EURAXESS Australia & New Zealand and the European Research Council (ERC), bring to you a webinar on ERC funding opportunities. The ERC is the premier European funding organisation for excellent frontier research. It supports investigator-driven frontier research across all fields. It awards research grants to scientists and scholars from all over the world, both early-career and senior researchers, carrying out their ambitious research projects in all scientific disciplines in Europe. The session will cover the following: Understanding ERC Grants: Dr Janne Salo, Scientific Officer, European Research Council Executive Agency Why I applied for the ERC Starting Grant and how I did it: Dr Scott Bremer, Research Professor (Forsker I) at the Centre for the Study of the Sciences and the Humanities, University of Bergen ********************* Follow us on: Twitter: / euraxess_ausnz Facebook: / euraxess.aus.nz LinkedIn: / euraxess-aus-nz Sign up for free Membership: https://euraxess.ec.europa.eu/worldwi... ********************* Speakers Profile: Dr Janne Salo Scientific Officer, European Research Council Executive Agency Dr Janne Salo is Doctor of Science in Technology from the Helsinki University of Technology (currently Aalto University, Finland), where he has worked as a lecturer in Materials and quantum physics. Since 2010 he has been a scientific officer at the ERC Executive Agency, where he currently coordinates the Synergy Grant evaluation in the field on Physical sciences and engineering. Dr Scott Bremer Research Professor (Forsker I), University of Bergen Dr Scott Bremer is a Research Professor (Forsker I) at the Centre for the Study of the Sciences and the Humanities at the University of Bergen.. He has a background in environmental planning, policy and governance, and most of his recent work is on climate adaptation governance. He is interested in how science and other ways of knowing are used in support of decisions and action in governance institutions, including at the so-called 'science-policy interface'. Scott conducts research mainly in an 'extended' or participatory mode, in collaboration with groups in society, to co-produce knowledge and action for addressing the challenges they face. In this Scott is guided by perspectives on 'transdisciplinarity’ and 'post-normal science' for example. Through his research, Scott tries to be active on both sides of the science-policy interface. He is a research associate at NORCE Climate, where he works closely with climate scientists and also vice-chair of the Young Academy of Europe, providing targeted inputs to European science-policy and science-for-policy. Scott has led and co-led a long portfolio of international research projects, including the recent ERC Starting Grant-funded CALENDARS project.
