The most powerful Elantra model ever, the Sport benefits from a variety of important powertrain, chassis, and styling upgrades over the current models. The Elantra Sport is powered by a 1.6 liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine with gasoline direct injection that generates 201 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque, reaching peak torque at 1,500 rpm. This new “Gamma” engine is paired with either a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed Dual Clutch Transmission with paddle shifters. The model also features exhaust and engine tuning to provide an authentic sporty sound without increasing booming or droning noise. The Elantra Sport model builds from the all-new Elantra’s rigid chassis, reinforced with 53 percent Advanced High-Strength Steel which is up from 21 percent in previous generations. As a result, torsional rigidity is improved by 29.5 percent, leading to fundamental improvements in vehicle ride and handling, quietness, and durability. So we test drive it on a little track and we were surprised with it's handling!
