For centuries, mule tracks connected local farmers and traders with the surrounding mountain passes. Today, the valley remains one of Central Switzerland's most authentic alpine regions. Melchsee-Frutt, located at approximately 1,920 metres above sea level, sits on a beautiful mountain plateau surrounded by lakes and peaks. It is known for hiking, fishing, skiing and some of Switzerland's most spectacular mountain landscapes. 🏔 A Brief History Tourism in the region began to develop in the 1930s. In 1935, the first aerial cableway from Stöckalp to Melchsee-Frutt was built and was considered the longest cableway in Switzerland at that time. This transformed the remote alpine area into a popular destination for visitors from all over Switzerland and beyond.
