Cycling Tralee to Listowel on EV1 with local history of Lixnaw Earls

Starting off the at the Tralee shipping canal at the bridge in Blennerville its a 40km cycle along the Eurovelo 1 route to Listowel. Tralee itself is of course busy but after that it's almost all quiet backroads with little traffic and views at first back towards Dingle and later towards Kerry Head. The most significant town on the route is Lixnaw which was once the seat of the Barons of Kerry and has both older 'Game of Thrones' type tales of medieval brutality and then a super morality tale of the Earl of Kerry who built the magnificent Lixnaw Court only to fight with his own offspring and set the road so that in two generations the family line ended and the Lixnaw Court building fell to disrepair and robbery of its windows, doors and lead roof. To top it off not only did his son not put his father body in the huge Monument the earl had built but Kerry council blew up the entire structure in 1957 to make way for a quarry.
