THIS INSURANCE INDUSTRY FIRST WEBINAR explores flood and escape of liquid damage is too often assessed without a sound engineering foundation. Flood and EOL claims are a significant cause of building and ground movement across Australia. Yet there is currently no formal industry guideline or empirical framework that links observed damage to key physical drivers such as foundation material, moisture exposure within the ground, and the interaction with different building construction and footing systems. As a result, many insurance assessments and engineering reports continue to rely on opinion rather than demonstrable engineering evidence. This has contributed to inconsistent conclusions on cause and extent of damage, disputed claims, inappropriate repair strategies, and poor outcomes for property owners, insurers, and engineers. In response, AiBEC has partnered with the University of Sydney to deliver a 12 month research project focused on developing a scientifically rigorous and repeatable methodology for assessing flood and EOL related building damage.
