Falta REPRESENTATIVIDADE NEGRA na TV! - Canal Preto

How many commercials featuring Black people have you seen in the last month? How many Black presenters have appeared on your TV? Who writes the films and series you watch? The lack of Black representation behind and in front of the cameras is also racism! Despite having arrived in the country more than half a century ago, Brazilian television continues to make Black people invisible. The roles assigned to us, who represent more than 50% of the population, are still those that reinforce stereotypes of subservience and servitude to white people. Even when dealing with themes and experiences of Black people, history is not respected. The problem of racism in audiovisual media goes far beyond what can be seen in soap operas and commercials. Those who write, direct, and choose the cast are generally also white men – who, in turn, prefer to tell stories of people of the same ethnicity. The Brazilian Labor Prosecutor's Office (MPT), together with the Black Artists' Front (FAN), opened a debate on the topic at the Sarau Preto event, held in Rio de Janeiro. What are the consequences of spending a lifetime without seeing oneself represented, whether in series, films, or advertisements? How can a Black actor or actress in Brazil maintain dignified work? What roles are reserved for Black people on screen?
