Today we break a rule: we shoot a video even in the rain and mud, because we have a special vehicle in front of us: the Astra HDX, the new giant of the quarry-construction site. A 100% Italian truck, designed in Piacenza by Astra, a historic brand born in Sardinia in the post-war period to recover military vehicles. Today it produces extreme vehicles, designed to work hard in extreme conditions. This HDX is the evolution of the HD9: more powerful, more robust, but faithful to tradition. In this 8x4 version it has a capacity of 40 tons and is specifically designed for quarry-construction site missions. The heart of the vehicle: the Cursor 13 engine by FPT Industrial – reliable and available with power and torque values ​​up to 570 HP 2,500 Nm. In addition to the ZF automatic transmission, you can still choose the manual. In the quarry, where control and precision are needed, the manual is still the favorite, as the drivers of the Carrara quarries teach us. A little technology is allowed only where it is really needed. Assisted braking, rear-view camera, blind spot monitoring and manoeuvring assistance. But it is the chassis that makes the difference in an Astra truck: reinforced, with larger side members and the gem of the ‘Power Ring’ for unparalleled rigidity. Two steering front axles designed directly by Astra and leaf spring suspensions to ensure maximum robustness and load capacity. The HDX is not a truck adapted at a later time to off-road. It was born to wallow, to load and unload endlessly in the mud, between gravel and impossible climbs. This is the essence of the Astra HDX: tradition, power, concreteness.
