Would you like to visit the shrines in Najaf and Kufa, Iraq? Najaf is also called Mashhad Ali (May Allah be pleased with him) because it is the site of the martyrdom of Imam Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). As part of our visit to Najaf, we will visit the shrine of Imam Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) at the Imam Ali Shrine (Imam Ali Mosque). From Najaf, we will travel to Kufa. Its name is said to derive from the Arabic word "Kufa," meaning "round sand hill" or "place where people gather." Before entering the Kufa Mosque, we will visit the shrine of Khadijah bint Ali, daughter of Imam Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). We will visit the Kufa Mosque, the oldest mosque in Kufa. The Kufa Mosque is the most well-known mosque in Iraq and the first to be built in Kufa. The significance of the Kufa Mosque stems from: Imam Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred here. The foundations of the first Abbasid resistance against the Umayyads were laid here, and the first Abbasid caliph, Abu'l-Abbas al-Saffah, girded himself with a sword and became caliph here. The tombs (shrines) of Muslim ibn Aqeel, Hani ibn Urwa, and Mukhtar al-Saqafi are also located here. The places we will visit in Kufa are as follows: First, in the courtyard of the Kufa Mosque, we will see the place where Noah (peace be upon him) built his Ark before the Flood, known locally as the Ark. Then, we will visit the tombs of Muslim ibn Aqeel (may Allah be pleased with him) and Mukhtar al-Saqafi (may Allah be pleased with him), both entombed beneath the golden dome of the Kufa Mosque, and the adjacent tombs of Mukhtar al-Saqafi (may Allah be pleased with him). We will visit the shrine of Hani ibn Urwa (may Allah have mercy on him), whose tomb is located under the dome opposite them. Afterwards, we will visit the site and mihrab where Imam Ali (may Allah have mercy on him) was martyred. We will provide a brief overview of Imam Ali's mihrab. The mihrab where Imam Ali (may Allah have mercy on him) was martyred after being struck by the Kharijite assassin Abdurrahman ibn Muljam is one of the first places visited by visitors to the Kufa Mosque. Finally, in Kufa, we will visit Imam Ali's house. Within this simple house, known as the House of Imam Ali, we will show you the rooms of Imam Ali's children, the well inside his house for water needs, the place where his body was washed and shrouded after his martyrdom, and the place where his musalla was placed.
