Treating injured lungs by extinguishing inflammation

This condition called Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) has been the focus of extensive research because many patients do not survive and of those who do, recovery is very slow with many remaining disabled for years. Despite attention from clinicians and scientists there are few treatment options available for ARDS.
