The Road To Becoming Climbing's First Paralympian

‪@mammut‬ Amruta Wyssmann and Lucia Capovilla are climbers who were born without a left forearm. We explore their passion for our sport, their achievements, and whether The Paralympic Games can help push the sport forward. Lucia represents Italy in lead climbing, with multiple World Cup wins and podium finishes at World Championships. The first international para-climbing championship was held in 2011 in Italy, side-by-side with able-bodied championships. Now, in 2028, para-climbing will be featured at one of the world's largest sporting events, The Paralympic Games in LA, USA. It's hoped that new exposure could help push the sport forwards, and allow athletes to dedicate more time to train, as well as encourage new climbers with disabilities into the fold. But, moving towards professionalism has not been straightforward. We spoke to Amruta and Lucia about the difficulties in grouping athletes together in different classes, routesetting, and competitive fairness.
