Fascinating Oil & Water Science Experiment for Kids
It's just mesmerising to watch how colour patterns formed in this experiment. You only need three simple ingredients, a minute to set it up, and you will have an exciting activity for your kids! Food colouring is water based, and it doesn't dissolve oil, but if you mix them together, you will see a lot of tiny droplets of food colouring stuck in oil. However, food colouring is denser than oil and bit by bit droplets will submerge to the bottom of the oil layer, where they meet water and start colouring it.
