B.C. wildfire survivors speak out for accountability – Lytton
In October 2021, our team travelled to Lytton and the surrounding areas of Kamloops and Shackan, British Columbia to hear directly from those who have been impacted by the catastrophic extreme weather events fuelled by climate change over the summer. Shortly after B.C. 's record-breaking heatwave that hit a scorching 49.6ºC, Lytton, a close-knit community of approximately 250 people, burned to the ground within 15 minutes of the fires coming in over the mountains. Families were separated, homes and businesses were burned to the ground and lives were lost. Despite the devastation and hardship, fire survivors are speaking out. They want those funding fossil fuels to hear their message – Lytton is still here, and they want governing and financial institutions to put their money where their mouth is. End fossil fuel financing, keep it in the ground! Please amplify their voices online by sharing the videos, and taking action to end fossil fuel financing! Tell Canada's #FossilBanks to STOP funding fossil fuels and keep it in the ground: https://www.greenpeace.org/canada/en/ #KeepItInTheGround
