In the Twinkling of an Eye: The Suddenness of the Rapture

The rapture will occur with astonishing suddenness—so quickly that Scripture describes it as happening "in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye" (1 Corinthians 15:52). The phrase refers to an event that takes place instantaneously, without warning or delay. At that moment, believers who have died in Christ will be raised, and those who are alive will be transformed. What is now corruptible, subject to decay, weakness, sickness, and death, will put on incorruption. Mortal bodies will be changed into immortal, glorified bodies perfectly suited for eternity in God's presence. In a single divine act, the limitations of earthly existence will give way to the perfection of resurrection life, fulfilling God's promise of victory over death and completing the believer's redemption.
