ABOUT You might think that talented pianist Robert Glasper can only play jazz as he did on his Blue Note albums like Canvas (2005) and Double-Booked (2009). But Glasper is equally at home in the jazz world as in hip hop circles. "I'm in both worlds as deep as you can get in them, at the same time," he himself says. And he likes to explore and experiment, as proven by his activities with hip hop producer Pete Rock. Glasper has a simple explanation: "We have to delve through much more music than legends like Coltrane and Miles Davis. There is a lot more information today." This time he will be presenting a tribute to Roy Ayers. Vibraphone player Ayers (1940) is a soul and R&B legend who, after a career in jazz, shifted to funk, R&B and even disco.
