SB19 Joins Lollapalooza Chicago: A Historic Global Stage for Philippine Pop SB19 is heading to one of the world’s most influential music festivals, carrying Philippine pop onto a stage shared with some of today’s biggest global artists. The five-member group will perform at Lollapalooza Chicago 2026, whose lineup includes Jennie, Olivia Dean, The Chainsmokers, Empire of the Sun, Lorde, Charli XCX, The Smashing Pumpkins and many more. Their inclusion places Filipino music before an audience that follows not only pop, but also rock, electronic music, hip-hop and emerging global sounds. This is not simply another overseas booking. SB19 will become the first Filipino group to perform at Lollapalooza Chicago. They are scheduled for a full one-hour set at the Allianz Stage on July 30, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Chicago time. Filipino fans can watch on July 31 from 4:30 to 5:30 a.m. Philippine time. Their performance is also included in the festival livestream available to eligible Disney+ and Hulu subscribers. So, what exactly is Lollapalooza, and why does this appearance matter so much for P-pop? Launched in 1991 by Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell, Lollapalooza began as a touring festival before establishing its home in Chicago’s Grant Park. Today, it presents more than 170 artists across eight stages. Its frequently cited attendance of around 400,000 represents the combined audience across the four-day festival—not one crowd gathered at a single performance. The Lollapalooza brand has also expanded internationally, with editions staged in countries including Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Germany and India. The word “lollapalooza” describes something or someone extraordinarily impressive—and SB19 certainly fits that description. Pablo, Josh, Stell, Ken and Justin have proven that they are more than a conventional boy band. They participate in creating their music, have written and performed their own hits, and now manage their careers through 1Z Entertainment, the company they founded. Their progress reflects not only talent but also creative independence and a willingness to build their own path. Their Chicago appearance forms part of an exceptionally busy international schedule. Before Lollapalooza, SB19 will appear at the Grammy Museum’s sold-out Global Spin Live program in Los Angeles on July 28. On July 29, they are scheduled to become the first Filipino group to throw a ceremonial first pitch at a Major League Baseball game, ahead of the Chicago White Sox versus New York Yankees matchup. In August, they will continue to Japan for Summer Sonic in Osaka and Tokyo. For Filipino music, Lollapalooza represents a door opening. SB19’s presence shows global festival organizers that P-pop and OPM have artists capable of commanding major international stages. Perhaps future editions will introduce audiences to more Filipino performers such as G22, Zack Tabudlo, Cup of Joe and others. I am genuinely happy to witness this moment. SB19 endured humble beginnings, harsh criticism and even ridicule before receiving this level of recognition. Their rise reminds us how far Filipino talent can travel when excellence meets persistence.
