[Ryukyu Bingata] OKINAWA STRUCTURE Vol. 1: Communicating the Charm and Skills of Okinawa's Traditional Dyeing Technique, Bingata 0:00-5:00: Interviews Delving into the Appeal of Ryukyu Bingata 5:00-16:44: Ryukyu Bingata Techniques and Processes ●Video Concept This video was produced by the Cabinet Office's Okinawa General Bureau as part of the Regional Collective Trademark Utilization Project. We believe that reaffirming the value and appeal of Ryukyu Bingata, Okinawa's traditional dyed and woven fabric, and protecting its design and brand through an institutional framework will lead to the preservation of authentic techniques. ●About Ryukyu Bingata Ryukyu Bingata (Bingata) is a dyed and woven fabric representative of Okinawa, dating back approximately 400 years. Dyeing techniques introduced to the Ryukyu Dynasty, which prospered through trade with China and Southeast Asia in the 14th and 15th centuries, were developed independently in Okinawa, resulting in the establishment of the Ryukyu Bingata technique, which uses stencils and vibrant pigments. During the dynasty, Ryukyu Bingata was only available to royalty and those of high status. It was lost for a time during the Meiji Restoration and war, but was revived after the war, and the traditional techniques are now preserved and passed down as a part of Okinawa's identity. ●About "OKINAWA STRUCTURE" Explore the spirituality and historical perspective of Okinawan people from the places where they are made Okinawa is an island with many long-standing local industries and traditional crafts. These crafts embody the spirit and culture of the people. By revealing the manufacturing processes that are usually hidden from view, this video aims to educate producers about the current state of affairs and ensure the authenticity and value of these crafts. ●Notes on Usage All rights to this video belong to the Okinawa General Bureau of the Cabinet Office.
