The 2024 elections revealed a statistic that caught the attention of analysts and authorities: abstention was once again very high. In the presidential and congressional elections, approximately 45.7% of registered voters did not cast their ballots, while in the municipal elections, abstention exceeded 53%, reflecting a significant level of disinterest or disaffection with the political process. One of the most concerning aspects is the participation of young people. The president of the Central Electoral Board (JCE), Román Jáquez Liranzo, himself pointed out that people between 25 and 35 years old constituted the group with the highest abstention rate in the 2024 elections, which is why the JCE has launched research to better understand the causes of this phenomenon.
