OnBoard a Dallara-Corvette C7 Daytona Prototype: V8 Roar, Accelerations & Night Racing in Europe!
I've been chasing this car for a while now, ever since I heard there was one competing in historic championships here in Europe. The opportunity arose last week during the Grand Prix de France Historique at the Circuit Paul Ricard, event during which Masters Historic Racing hosted the first annual round of its Masters Endurance Legends championship. This series is open to sports prototype and GT cars that were eligible to take part in sprint and endurance races between 1995 and 2016 (2015-2019 for GT3 cars), including most of the global championships of the period. The Corvette DP is part of the 3rd generation of Daytona Prototypes introduced in 2012. The Daytona Prototype class was introduced in 2003 when the Grand American Road Racing Association (GARRA) announced that they would stop support of their two premier open cockpit classes of the time (mostly modified from Le Mans Prototypes) due to the extreme speeds they were able to reach at GARRA's premier track, the Daytona International Speedway. The new cars would use closed cockpit chassis made of tube frames, instead of high cost carbon fiber composites and would also use a standardize amount of technology that could go into them, as well as not allowing teams to develop their cars over a season, instead being forced to stay with the same basic car. Engines specifically would have to be based on a road-legal production unit from a major manufacturer. At the same time, major manufacturers would not be allowed to run Daytona Prototype teams, in order to help keep competition level and costs down. DP cars later competed in the merged series of the IMSA SportsCar Championship, from 2014 to 2016, before being phased out and replaced by the Daytona Prototype International class in 2017 The car you see up here is the last iteration of the Corvette DP, sporting an aesthetic upgrade introduced in 2015 that included a Chevrolet Corvette C7 style grille, headlights, and taillights, replacing the C6 look of previous years. The Crovette DP raced in Grand-Am competition from 2012 through 2013 as a Daytona Prototype and then continued in the P class in the IMSA Tudor SportsCar Championship Series, now called the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. With the change to IMSA racing, the car was updated to compete against ex-ALMS P2 cars. These included carbon brakes, carbon clutch, large rear diffuser (not part of Grand-Am rules), dual element rear wing, and other aerodynamic upgrades. Starting from 2014 the original 5.0-liter LS6 V8 derived engine was replaced by a 5.5-liter V8 designed by ECR Engines to accommodate IMSA’s shift to 600 hp engines. It's based on the production LS9 aluminum block and linked to a 6-speed sequential gearbox. The Corvette bodykit could be applied either to Riley, Coyote or Dallara chassis. The C7 DP of this video is an ex-Wayne Taylor Racing car which is now being fielded in some races here in Europe, managed by HCP racing team. Enjoy the thunderous sound of the V8 engine in the excellent hands of drivers Alex Müller and Matteo Ferrer-aza and also seeing it racing in a scenic sunset and at night around the French circuit! 0:00 Details & Warm Up 2:30 Pit Exit 2:57 Warm Up Lap OnBoard w/ Alex Müller 4:59 External Scenes - pt. 1 7:22 OnBoard w/ Alex Müller 10:04 External Scenes - pt. 2 12:48 OnBoard w/ Matteo Ferrer-aza 17:17 External Scenes & Pit In #CorvetteC7R #DaytonaPrototype #CorvetteC7DP -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have to thank my friend and youtuber @Italiansupercarvideo for the great collaboration done.
