The trek usually begins from Ranu Pani, the last village before the entrance to Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. From there, climbers cover a approximately 10 km trail with an average travel time of 4–5 hours. The trail features pine forests, savannahs, and challenging mountain climbs, especially at the steep Watu Rejeng post. Upon arrival at Ranu Kumbolo, climbers are greeted by a panoramic view of the clear lake against a backdrop of green hills, cool air, and a serene atmosphere often accompanied by light mist or a beautiful sunrise in the morning.
