I ride around Washington DC to explain the best possible way to lock up your bicycle. Honestly, the best method that trumps all is probably leaving your bike indoors. If you have a garage or an empty hallway, consider leaving it there instead of outside overnight. Take these protective measures seriously since bicycle wheels, seats, and frames get stolen all the time. This by the way doesn't only apply to major cities, even some rural communities have problems with bike thieves. Use a U lock as your primary lock, and a cable lock as a secondary lock. NEVER USE A CABLE LOCK AS YOUR PRIMARY LOCK!!
