Dr. Rüdiger Grass from the University of Kassel explained why this is the case and what the specific challenges are at the 2023 Field Day. He compared two methods for cultivating silage maize in regenerative agriculture. Variant 1: Direct seeding into a rolled winter cover crop. Variant 2: "Normal" sowing into a harvested and shallowly tilled winter cover crop. The conclusion: Despite all its potential advantages, direct seeding is usually too risky in practice (especially in organic farming) and simultaneously technically complex and expensive.
