He rose through the ranks from a Moscow parish priest, then to the Tsar's confessor, and so on, all the way to a strict monastic life on Solovki. In schema, he received the name Jesus, not in honor of our Lord Jesus Christ, as this is not customary in our tradition, but in honor of Jesus Navin. His monastic labors took place on the Solovetsky island of Anzersk. There he received a revelation from the Mother of God – to name the mountain the Second Golgotha ​​and build a church in honor of the Crucifixion of the Lord. This revelation in the early 18th century foreshadowed the suffering for the faith of many Orthodox Christians exiled to Solovki in the 20th century, where they endured all manner of hardships and tortures.
