We Came for the Food, Found Family History Instead | Penang Malaysia

After meeting up with my husband in Penang following my Taiwan trip, we spent a week exploring one of the world's great food cities. What began as a food-focused adventure quickly became something more meaningful. Together with our son, we explored Georgetown's historic streets, sampled incredible Bib Gourmand and local hawker food, visited the famous Khoo Kongsi clan house connected to my husband's family name, wandered through Chew Jetty, rode up Penang Hill (only to find ourselves completely surrounded by clouds!), and discovered hidden gems like Backdoor Bodega. One of my favorite experiences was visiting a traditional kuih factory—not once, but twice! Sometimes the best travel memories come from the places that make you slow down and appreciate the stories behind the food, the people, and the history. Penang reminded us that food is more than something we eat.
