Former NFL Player Becomes JSO Officer

For many, success means leaving home. For Officer Laveranues Coles, true success meant coming back. From Ribault High School to Florida State University, and then 11 seasons in the NFL with the New York Jets, Washington Commanders, and Cincinnati Bengals, Officer Coles achieved what many only dream of. But this Pro Bowl wide receiver’s greatest legacy isn’t measured in touchdowns. It’s defined by his commitment to his community. His life has been full of ups and downs. Officer Coles has seen the other side of the law and is grateful to have been given several second chances. About two years ago, he decided to join the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office to serve the city that helped shape him.
