Hyperion Knight plays Bach's Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring

J.S. Bach is a central figure in both the artistic and spiritual life of civilization, and his Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring embraces both worlds. And in purely musical terms, it embraces both Bach's unforgettable lyricism as well as his fascinating counterpoint. I've based my arrangement on a performance by the great English pianist Harold Bauer, as well as celebrated transcriptions by Dame Myra Hess and Wilhelm Kempff. But above all I've taken my cues from the piano itself, with its ability to create the illusion of multiple voices along with high drama. S.D.G.
