John Zappia resets the ANDRA Australian Top Doorslammer National Record to a 5.644 at the Perth Motorplex. Western Australian drag racing legend John Zappia has again reset the Australian National Drag Racing Association (ANDRA) Top Doorslammer National Record held at the Perth Goldenstates recently, November 11 + 12 November, 2022 in front of over 11,000+ spectators. Driving the world's quickest, wildest and fastest 1971 HQ Holden Monaro, Zappia wheelstood, steered and fishtailed his way to the new ANDRA ET National Record in great style, as he always does, pushing his wild Noonan powered Holden Monaro to its absolute limits to get the Record. Recent changes to his awesome combination saw Zappia convert from a clutch powered machine, to an automatic powered car with a torque convertor now, and his results were instant. A shakedown pass first saw Zappia run a wheelstanding and pedalling 5.712 @ 411.05 km/h pass, followed by an early shut-off 5.999 @ just 301.88 km/h. He then came out and ran a 5.668 @ 412.09 km/h, followed by his ANDRA ET Record breaking run, an astonishing 5.645 @ 414.13 km/h to break the ANDRA ET National Record. But "Zap" wasn't done. He then belted out a wild fishtailing 5.644 @ 413.36 km/h to again reset his own Record from his previous pass, as his engine said goodbye through the traps. After a mad thrash engine change removing the damaged motor in the pits by his crew, and trying to difficulty manoeuvre his massive engine on a crane in the grassed pit area, "Zap" was unfortunately unable to make the Finals due to time constraints, and missed the Final by just minutes.
