Temperatures are expected to climb this week into the mid- and upper 90s, with the heat index pushing toward 100 degrees or higher on multiple days, leading to potentially dangerous conditions for Central New Yorkers. An extreme heat watch is expected to be in effect from midday Wednesday through sunset Friday. A heat advisory has been issued for when the heat index reaches 95 to 99 degrees for two or more consecutive hours, or 100 to 104 for any length of time, according to National Weather Service criteria.
