Lets Try To Kill the SX-460 AVR. A substitute for the Onan AVR used in the J series gensets is the SX-460 AVR. The SX-460 AVR is a cheap substitute and generally made in China. The ONAN AVR's are obsolete and very expensive if one can be found. Recently, a member posted a question asking about the reliability of the SX-460 AVR when the genset is subjected to constant extreme loads to no load quickly and repeatedly. I thought it would be a good idea to test the SX-460 AVR to answer the question. In this video I used my Onan 6.0 DJB-MS which has the SX-460 AVR hooked up to my load bank and beat the crap out of the genset's SX-460 AVR by repeatedly and quickly going from near no load to 6kw (the DJB's max output) for about 30 minutes. The end result - I could not kill the SX-460 AVR and here is my video to prove it.
