La primera mancha puede ARRUINAR un retrato
In this video, I explain why the first brushstroke can largely determine the outcome of an oil portrait. Rather than starting with the details, I'm interested in building the head from the overall structure: masses, values, edges, midtones, and the relationship between light and shadow. That first session, when well-planned, can define 60 or 70% of the painting. I also share why I prefer a more sculptural and less mechanical approach, working the form like a block that is gradually shaped until the portrait emerges.
