Compiled by: Saleh Ahmed Al-Shami This book is not merely a compilation of these sayings, but rather an attempt to present a comprehensive vision of Ibn Taymiyyah's thought and methodology in da'wah (Islamic propagation) and reform. The main topics covered in the book are: Introduction and biography of Ibn Taymiyyah: A brief overview of Ibn Taymiyyah's life: his birth, upbringing, pursuit of knowledge, teachers, students, writings, struggles, trials, and death. His character and virtues: his knowledge, asceticism, piety, courage, generosity, humility, and patience. Scholarly praise: testimonies from scholars of his time and those who came after him regarding his scholarly stature and merit. About the author ----------- Salih ibn Ahmad al-Shami. He was born in 1934 CE in the city of Douma, located northeast of Damascus. He completed his primary education in his hometown, then moved to Damascus to pursue his preparatory and secondary studies at the "Institute of Sharia Sciences" affiliated with the Al-Gharra' Association, a boarding school. He graduated from this institute in 1954, coinciding with the establishment of the Faculty of Sharia at the Syrian University – now Damascus University – at that time. He enrolled after passing the entrance exam, which was a prerequisite for admission. He graduated from this faculty in 1958, ranking among its top students. He worked as a teacher for the Ministry of Education in the Suwayda Governorate, then was transferred to his hometown of Douma, where he continued working until 1980, when he applied for and was granted retirement. That same year, he moved to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where he worked as a teacher at institutes affiliated with Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University. He continued in this role until 1998, when he reached the legal retirement age. He then settled in Riyadh. For many years, he delivered the Friday sermon in his hometown mosques that were not under the administration of the Ministry of Religious Endowments. His teachers at the Institute of Islamic Sciences were among the prominent scholars of Damascus at that time, including Sheikh Abdul Karim al-Rifai, Sheikh Abdul Ghani al-Daqr, Sheikh Abdul Wahhab Dabs wa Zayt (al-Hafiz), Sheikh Abdul Rahman al-Zu'bi al-Tayyibi, Sheikh Ahmad al-Jabawi, Sheikh Khalid Ankhil, Sheikh Nayef al-Abbas, and others, may God have mercy on them all. He never considered becoming a writer or publishing a book; he considered himself beneath him. However, being away from his family and homeland, his introverted nature, and other factors led him to feel a sense of emptiness and ample free time. He filled this time with reading and exploring various fields of knowledge he wished to learn about. He was invited to give a lecture on a topic related to the Prophet's biography, which, praise be to God, was successful. This prompted him to consider presenting a study of the Prophet's biography in the same style as the lecture, and this was the beginning. This was after he turned forty-five, and the book was published under the title "From the Wellspring of Biography."
