1979: Kirkintilloch's Men of Iron | A Diary of Britain | World of Work | BBC Archive

A Diary of Britain follows a week in the life of workers at the Lion Foundry in Kirkintilloch, on the outskirts of Glasgow, during December 1978. Working in the foundry is hot, dirty and dangerous work, and though mechanisation has somewhat reduced the physical toll on the workers, it remains a gruelling undertaking. Why do the men do it? Would they want their children to follow in their footsteps? Clip taken from A Diary of Britain, originally broadcast on BBC Two, 10 December, 1979. You have now entered the BBC Archive, a time machine that will transport you back to the golden age of TV to educate, entertain and enlighten you with classic clips from the BBC vaults.
