I started preparing to move to the U.S. with my son, who will be six months old once we move, when he was four months old! Since I was raising my child at home, my husband and I naturally divided the roles. My husband mainly handled paperwork and carrying luggage or doing things I asked him to do, while I focused on organizing the house, unpacking, and getting everything ready for the baby. 🤪 I’m sharing what I prepared in case it might be helpful to anyone! 1. Document Preparation: Visa interview • Prepare visa-related documents Get a passport Get an International Driver's License Meetings & document preparation regarding containers shipped via sea freight Looking into US house and car leases Prepare English certificates for baby vaccinations (can be printed online via Government24) 2. Packing 💡 Items to pack for the flight 📍 Items for a 6-month-old baby Extra baby clothes / Diapers / Handkerchiefs / Headset / Liquid formula / Baby warmer / Cotton swabs / Lotion / Wet wipes / Baby carrier / Hip seat / 2 pacifiers / Blanket / Portable sterilizer / Emergency medicine (Camellia, Champ) Toys (rattles, teething toys, books, etc.) / Plastic bags • Ziploc bags 💡 Checked Baggage: 📍 Baby Items: Car seat, stroller, formula dispenser, formula, clothes, diapers, books, toys, travel bed, toiletries, towels, baby bathtub, weaning supplies Emergency medicine (Champ fever reducer, Baekcho syrup, Bepanthen, nasal Saline spray, probiotics, pediatric prescription anti-diarrheal medication, a moisturizing cream covered by insurance, a very mild steroid ointment), and wash your feet. 3. Other things to prepare Purchase at Daiso (buy basic daily necessities cheaply, such as zipper bags, lint rollers, parchment paper, and baby door dent protectors) Pack kitchen scissors and chopsticks Purchase Korean food items such as soy sauce, gochujang, doenjang, and fish sauce (Meat and grains are not allowed and regulations are strict, so please check online / You cannot send them via sea freight, so you must pack them in your airplane luggage) Purchase eyeglass lenses and eye drops in advance Go to a hair salon Get a prescription for antibiotics for adults Switch to the most basic Korean mobile phone plan (They say that if you get rid of your Korean number, it will be inconvenient in many ways when verifying your identity later) Start emptying the refrigerator at least 2-3 weeks in advance! ⭐️ If you have any other questions, please leave a comment! :-) Thank you!
