PLO | Biography of Comrade General Luong Cuong, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Standing member of the Secretariat Luong Cuong becomes President On the afternoon of October 21, Standing member of the Secretariat Luong Cuong was elected by the 15th National Assembly to hold the position of President for the 2021-2026 term. General Luong Cuong is 67 years old, from Phu Tho province; Member of the Party Central Committee for the 11th-13th terms; Secretary of the Party Central Committee for the 12th and 13th terms; Member of the Politburo for the 13th term; Delegate of the 15th National Assembly. Mr. Cuong enlisted in 1975 and worked for many years in Military Region 2. He served as Political Commissar of Army Corps 2 and Political Commissar of Military Region 3. In 2011, he held the position of Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army and 5 years later became Director of the General Department of Politics.
