“Njet Molotoff” is a Finnish satirical wartime song from the Winter War (1939–1940). It mocks Soviet Foreign Minister Vyacheslav Molotov’s excuses for the invasion, calling them even worse than the lies of Nikolay Bobrikov, the Russian Governor-General infamous for trying to Russify Finland. With sharp humor, the song ridicules the Red Army’s failures and the posturing of Soviet leadership. In the video, you’ll notice I’m wearing an authentic Lotta uniform. The Lotta Svärd organization was a voluntary auxiliary paramilitary group made up of Finnish women who supported the military during wartime. They played an essential role working as nurses, clerks, and in other crucial positions, freeing men to fight at the front. Special thanks to Stephen for making the uniform possible.
