Every Final Word Before Death Said the Same Thing

Every last word spoken before death in the Bible reveals the same surprising thing: the dying almost never spoke about themselves. Jacob, Joseph, Moses, David, Stephen, Paul. With their final breath, they blessed the people they were leaving behind. We imagine last words as goodbyes, a soft final sentence and a closing of the eyes. But the deathbed scenes of Scripture record something stranger. One after another, the dying turned toward the people they were leaving and handed something forward. Jacob crossed his hands to bless his grandsons. Joseph made his family swear to carry his bones home to a land he would never see. Moses blessed an inheritance he was forbidden to enter, then died alone on a mountain in an unmarked grave. Elisha fired an arrow of victory from his sickbed. Stephen, dying under the stones, prayed for the men killing him, one of whom would become the apostle Paul. And Paul, in a Roman cell, wrote that he had fought the good fight and finished the race, and handed the crown forward to the next runner. A last word, in the Bible, is not an ending. It is a handoff. And how a person says goodbye reveals what they believed their whole life was for. This video does not cover the seven words of Jesus from the cross. It covers the others: the patriarchs, the prophets, the kings, the first martyr, and the apostle who knew the end had come.
