NIEDBALSTWO URZĘDNIKÓW MISZALSKIEGO może wyrzucić Kraków z UNESCO

Could Krakow – the first city ever inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List – be thrown off the list? Unfortunately: yes. And with a bang. And all because of bureaucratic nonchalance, an ignored letter from the UNESCO director, and a footbridge whose construction could threaten the unique landscape of Krakow's city center. In this article, I tell you the whole story: from the UNESCO inscription in 1978, which paved the way for the city to restore its monuments and achieve global prestige, through years of neglect, to the dramatic events of recent months. I show how Aleksander Miszalski's officials ignored a letter from UNESCO ordering the immediate halt to construction of the footbridge between Kazimierz and Ludwinów – and how that letter ended up in a drawer instead of being responded to. It was residents, not the mayor or officials, who exposed the matter and made it known to the world. If it weren't for them and a single Facebook post, no one would have learned of the scandal. The authorities only took action when their backs were against the wall. And that's only a little bit – continuing to ignore UNESCO guidelines and recommendations, thumbing their noses at the institution whose logo Krakow boasts at every entrance to the city. In this article, you'll find not only an analysis of the entire situation, but also statements from residents who oppose this investment, as well as documents that Krakow authorities would rather keep hidden. I also show how the narrative surrounding the construction is being manipulated, the PR tricks being used, and why the footbridge is being built even in violation of the applicable building permit. Is this incompetence or deliberate action? Will Krakow lose its place on the UNESCO list because of the arrogance of the local government? Is all this happening just to please event tourism and the interests of the restaurant industry? Or is there something more to it? I invite you to watch this article about how easily generations of achievements can be squandered. And how in Krakow – a gem of heritage – heritage can be so easily ignored.
