The Geita Regional Anti-Corruption Bureau (PACB) has said it has identified misappropriation and misuse of funds for the implementation of development projects in some areas of the Geita Region. Speaking before journalists, the Head of the Geita Regional Anti-Corruption Bureau, James G. Ruge, said that the investigation conducted by the institution has revealed the existence of acts of embezzlement of public funds, improper use of project funds as well as the distortion of development fund spending procedures. He said that the PCB has succeeded in discovering misappropriation of funds in various projects implemented under the Chato District Council, where some employees and leaders are alleged to have participated in the misuse of funds, which affected the implementation of the projects. According to the PCB Head, the investigation has shown that funds allocated for development projects were used contrary to the intended objectives, which caused some projects to be delayed or not implemented properly. In addition, he said the PCCB has brought to court one suspect known as Chambuzi Sita (06) of Chato District on charges of participating in acts of corruption and embezzlement of public funds. In another step, the PCCB Head urged the citizens of Geita Region to continue to cooperate by reporting acts of corruption and embezzlement so that legal action can be taken against the perpetrators. “The PCCB will continue to oversee accountability and ensure that public funds are used for the intended purposes for the benefit of the people,” said Ruge. Finally, he urged government leaders, civil servants and citizens to adhere to the principles of transparency, accountability and integrity in the management of development projects.
