Barona Pow Wow 2025 — Friday Night at the Barona Indian Reservation (Full Video)

The Barona Pow Wow 2025 was held at the Barona Recreation Field on the Barona Indian Reservation near San Diego, California. This free pow wow featured dancers, singers, and community members coming together to celebrate culture, tradition, and Kumeyaay pride. I was invited by the head boy’s family, Ares Arnold and the Arnold family! After a few years of covering Indigenous events for YouTube, I’m starting to get inquiries about full event coverage, which for me includes both photos and videos. It’s been such a great journey, and I’ll keep pursuing YouTube until it becomes a full-time income for me. Located about 15 minutes northeast of San Diego, the Barona Indian Reservation is home to the Barona Band of Mission Indians, a Kumeyaay nation whose reservation was established in 1932. The tribe was displaced from its original lands at Capitan Grande and later purchased the Barona Ranch, where they built a self-sustaining community. Today, they’re known for the Barona Valley Ranch Resort & Casino, their cultural center, and a museum that preserves Kumeyaay traditions, language, and history. The pow wow itself is free, parking is free, and there are plenty of portapotties around—but since it’s held at the Barona Recreation Field, there are also indoor bathrooms with running water, which is always nice! The pow wow has a really laid-back, cozy vibe. There’s no dust swirling around, and the venue feels pretty big compared to the number of people attending. I’m hoping more dancers and singers come out for Saturday night! I like to record an entire event in one continuous take with as few breaks as possible. Sometimes you’ll hear me cough, sneeze, or even laugh a little. I leave those little camera mistakes in—like when I was adjusting my audio because I forgot to turn up my headphone volume, or when the lighting shifts darker or brighter. That’s just part of my style with long single-take pow wow videos.
