Doran, Besieged by Time flips combat on its head by making toughness the most important stat on the battlefield. This Abzan deck is packed with creatures that naturally have massive toughness, letting us attack for huge damage while still benefiting from effects that care about power–toughness differences. As our creatures attack, they get buffed based on how much tougher they are than they are strong — and then we still deal damage equal to toughness, which is usually the biggest number anyway. The result is a deck that pressures life totals quickly, breaks conventional combat maths, and punishes opponents for evaluating creatures the “normal” way.
