IG Vid Prep: Mozart 29 | Joseph Conyers, Double bass

Similar to his 25th symphony, Mozart’s 29th is not as commonly performed as his later symphonies. However, it is one of his more well-known early symphonies. Written in A Major, it has one of the warmest openings to a symphony that I can think of. This excerpt comes from the very end of the first movement. The theme of the first movement starts off with two quarter notes that drop an octave. Mozart makes use of this feature in the fourth movement as well to have some thematic material tying the whole symphony together. When you play octaves in music, or anything that repeats for that matter, it should be different. So, octaves should never be played, in my opinion, the exact same way. The second note should always be less, specifically in the Classical era. This is again another great excerpt that highlights style and phrasing rules that make the music come alive. #doublebass #mozart #bassist #orchestra #rehearsal #doublebass #bassist #doublebass #classicalmusic #instaclassical #musiciansofinstagram #strings #violin #viola #cello #Symphony #Orchestra #bassplayer #acousticbass #contrabass #contrabaixo #kontrabass #contrabasso #contrabajo #philadelphiaorchestra #yourphilorch #bassgram #instabass #uprightbass #classicalmusicians #philly
