Mine Electrification and its impacts on Strategic Mine Planning

This is the panel discussion on “Mine Electrification and its impacts on Strategic Mine Planning” which involves experts in Planning. The Symposium features insights from industry leaders at AMC Consultants, Gold Fields, 4Sight, Snowden Optiro, and Datamine experts. This Perth-based in-person event covers insights, new trends, innovations and challenges in establishing strategic mine planning. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Tarrant Elkington, General Manager - Snowden Optiro Tarrant is the General Manager for Snowden Optiro has over 17 years of consulting experience: specialising in technical due diligence, mine optimization, mining strategy selection, project management, and providing solutions to unique and/or complex mining problems including a number of studies in In-Pit Crushing and Conveying and Trolley Assist. This is supported by a PhD in mine optimisation. He has been involved in studies in Australia, North America, South America, Africa, Europe, and Asia; across commodities including precious metals, base metals, industrial minerals and iron ore. Tarrant’s key focus is in connecting the technical levers of a mining operation to the financial outcomes. Sarah de Vries, Principal Consultant Sarah is a Principal Consultant with Snowden Optiro. She has over 15 years of experience in mining operations, planning and consulting for open pit and underground mines in Australia and Africa. Her particular area of focus is mining electrification. She has 4 years of operating and design experience with diesel-electric trolley-assist truck haulage operations in Zambia, followed by 6 months with Fortescue assessing electrification options such as trolley-assist and battery-electric truck haulage. Most recently she completed the Cosmos Underground Electrification Study at IGO, assessing the technical and financial feasibility of converting the Cosmos Mine from diesel to battery-electric. Phil Morriss, Mine Engineering Consultant Phil Morriss has over 50 years of experience in open pit mining, including: 25 years of large open pit precious and base metals Operations With Rio, BHP Billiton and Placer Dome in a range of technical and managerial role in Australia, Papua New Guinea, South America and Africa; four years as General Manager the CEO of an International Mining Contractor operating in Ghana and Tanzania in Africa; and 17 years as an international mining consultant and a specialist in-pit crushing expert. Gavin Mann, Principal Mining Technology Gavin is a mining industry operational and technical services professional, skilled in strategic planning, risk management, studies, operational management and business improvement. He has worked in gold, nickel and copper/zinc operations, specialising in deep narrow vein style deposits with challenging ground conditions. Gavin has managed large teams at both contractor and owner operations, engaging with the workforce to ensure safety objectives and production targets are clear and consistently met.
