A devastating fire broke out in a multi-storey residential building in Southwest Delhi's Palam area on 18th March morning, claiming the lives of nine members of the same family. The deceased include three children and a 70-year-old woman. The tragedy unfolded at Ram Chowk Market, near the Palam Metro Station, in a building that housed a cosmetics and cloth showroom on the lower floors. Heartbreaking scenes were witnessed as some family members, trapped by thick smoke and flames, were forced to jump from the upper floors to save their lives. Among the survivors are a father and his one-and-a-half-year-old daughter, who are currently undergoing treatment for critical injuries. The Lallantop team reached the spot to investigate the cause of the sudden blaze and the harrowing moments before the tragedy. Local residents and eyewitnesses allege that a delay in the arrival of functional fire equipment and narrow lanes hampered the rescue operation. Watch the video to know more.
