Half Galaxy Half Black!

What a transformation! The owner was done dirty by a previous painter on his Dodge Durango. The paint was chipping, there were runs everywhere. We had to get him looking right! We washed the car down with water and dawn dish soap to remove any dirt, grease, or grime. Then we sanded out some of the problem areas and filled in others with body filler. After a good wipe down with denatured alcohol and water, it was ready for the next step. The owner wanted a blue galaxy design on half of the car and black on the other half. We started with a black basecoat. This vehicle is pretty big so it needs about 6 gallons of product down in order to peel properly and provide good protection. Once the black basecoat was applied, we grabbed a couple blue pearls and things got messy. We kept the pearls to just the driver side of the car. It wasn't that big of a deal if some blue got on the other side because we could just spray it black and get a nice line down the whole car. After throwing the pigment on and brushing off excess with the air hose, we locked it in with a mist of clear basecoat. For the gloss, we used clear on the driver's side and tinted it black for the passenger side. This just gave a deeper, richer black effect and contributed to the contrast in color. We let that sit overnight before coming in the next day to sand it down and re-clear. We flow coat every project in order to get a better finish for the customer. It definitely came out looking wild. I love the wheels and accents that we did in contrasting colors on each side. Galaxy rims on the black side and black rims on the galaxy side. Unfortunately we had some bad weather so we couldn't get any shots in the sun but hopefully we can link up with him again soon.
