We Met a 'New Life in the Sun' Star in a 13th Century French Town!

Welcome to episode 102 of the programme. This time, we have completely abandoned the familiar borders of the Lot et Garonne and ventured north into the Dordogne to explore Monpazier, one of the most staggering thirteenth century Bastide towns ever constructed. Originally founded by King Edward the First as a military stronghold, the place is an absolute masterpiece of medieval architecture. It is packed with gorgeous stone squares, shady arcades, and a truly brilliant brocante. We take a look at an absolutely massive local workers table with the perfect patina, whilst being completely charmed by the exceptionally popular shop dog, Mr Bean. Naturally, no trip is complete without a spot of lunch. This leads to Maria completely writing off the entirety of Bergerac wine, firmly comparing it to rough, watered down red, whilst adamantly maintaining that she is absolutely not a wine snob. We also bump into a fellow television veteran, Hugh, who famously appeared on the hit programme 'A New Life in the Sun' after opening his brilliant local pub and brewery, Biere de la Bastide. He shares the honest reality of being on the telly, including the ultimate anecdote about a dedicated British fan who travelled hundreds of miles across the channel specifically to visit his taproom, only to proudly announce that he does not actually drink. Meanwhile, the absolute joy of French administration continues back at home as we eagerly await a response from the Mayor and the local Prefecture regarding our ongoing paperwork saga. Grab a glass of something that definitely isn't from Bergerac, and enjoy the programme.
