BLUE HYMNAL SIMPSON ORIGINAL (Heart of Asia) "A Missionary Cry"
Find the entire collection of songs here! / @kennethcameron1142 The 1897 edition of “Hymns of the Christian Life” includes a Preface that begins with the following words: “The musical taste of our day is in a state of transition… the people WILL have new tunes and hymns that move in a more spirited time than those which our fathers sang.” These observations were true then and remain relevant today. The hymns of A. B. Simpson have been bringing the message of Christ as Savior, Sanctifier, Healer, and Coming King into the pews of Alliance churches for well over 130 years. Among the most enduring of hymnals is the 1936 edition, commonly referred to as “The Blue Hymnal,” which many Alliance churches used well into the 1970s. However, with the rising use of audio-visual technology in most Alliance churches, the hymnal has nearly disappeared, seemingly taking Simpson's hymns along with it. The BLUE HYMNAL SIMPSON series represents an effort to faithfully place Simpson’s lyrics into the “new tunes” of our day, allowing the heart and passion of Simpson to be expressed through music once again. Glory to His Name! Ken Cameron A MISSIONARY CRY A hundred thousand souls a day Are passing one by one away In Christless guilt and gloom; Without one ray of hope or light, With future dark as endless night, They’re passing to their doom, They’re passing to their doom. O Spirit now Your people move, Baptize their hearts with faith and love And consecrate their gold. At Jesus’ feet their millions pour, And all their ranks unite once more, As in the days of old, As in the days of old. They’re passing, passing fast away In thousands day by day; They’re passing to their doom, They’re passing to their doom. The Master’s coming is drawing near; The Son of Man will soon appear; His kingdom is at hand. Before that glorious day can be, This gospel of the kingdom we Must preach in every land, Must preach in every land. Oh, let us then His coming haste, Oh, let us end this awful waste Of souls that never die. A thousand millions still are lost; A Savior’s blood has paid the cost, Oh, hear their dying cry, Oh, hear their dying cry. They’re passing, passing fast away In thousands day by day; They’re passing to their doom, They’re passing to their doom. They’re passing, passing, fast away, A hundred thousand souls a day In Christless guilt and gloom. O Church of Christ, what will you say When, in the awful judgment day, They charge you with their doom, They charge you with their doom? They’re passing, passing fast away In thousands day by day; They’re passing to their doom, They’re passing to their doom. A. B. Simpson is known as the founder of The Christian and Missionary Alliance, an evangelical denomination comprised of Jesus followers who long to introduce the love of God to all nations.
