"Calimero with a sombrero..." Anyone who doesn't immediately get that line stuck in their head and feel transported back to ZDF children's programming in the early 80s was probably still under the weather back then. The great triumph of the chick from Palermo, conceived as an advertising figure by the Italian Pagot brothers in 1963, began in Germany in children's series like "Trickbonbons" and the much-loved ZDF holiday program. The tried-and-tested team of Siegfried Rabe (books) and Eberhard Storeck (dubbing) were responsible for adapting the Japanese anime import – especially iconic because these voices and the catchy children's choir in the opening and closing credits are simply unheard of today.
