There was a time before Covid that I'd hike up annually to Sunset Peak, simply for the hike or to spend a night at the Mountain Camp, to see the glowing silvergrass in full bloom late autumn and early winter, as well as the stone huts in the camp. In the several years after the pandemic, the crowd up there simply put me off and I wouldn't bother bumping shoulders with fellow hikers or to haul hefty cameras up there just to shoot a sea of heads. But I do miss them glowing under a setting sun or waking up to their golden colours. This year I managed to do the hike in weekdays to avoid the crowd. It coincides with the clearest of sky and highest visibility. So I haul every shooting equipment I could still manage to capture some more moments I'd rather not miss. But it's already late November and the silvergrass had past the prime of their bloom and they're not at their best I've seen. Nonetheless, the silvergrass, the stone huts, the crisp wind, the starry sky and the rising sun -- spectacles revealing themselves before my eyes in a single day -- gave me more than plenty of reasons to be up there.
