The car is parked up on a ramp, so Gurney paints it as if it's jumping while being driven off-road on a stunt trail. He explains his painting technique, showing how he starts with a traditional sighting grid, like those used by Durer and other old masters, and then lays in the watercolor and gouache transparently and then opaquely until he has a complete painting finished in about an hour and a half before sunset.
