The Legend of Korra is NOT Garbage and Here's Why - A Response to Lily Orchard (Part 1)

ATTENTION SHIPMATES: UPDATE JANUARY 11, 2020 The time is upon us. YouTube's new COPPA-friendly terms of service are now taking effect. Because of this, The Admiral's "The Legend of Korra is NOT Garbage and Here's Why - A Response to Lily Orchard" series will no longer have certain features. Such features include the ability to add an episode to a playlist or the ability to leave comments. We on the ship are the most disheartened by the latter feature being removed, as we believe receiving feedback and interacting with the other shipmates is one of the most rewarding aspects of being a content creator. We're sure you may be wondering why The Admiral has chosen to mark this series as "for kids". After all, this series discusses various political ideologies and writing techniques, contains inappropriate language, and all around isn't appealing to children. Unfortunately, it would appear that the crusty old lawmakers in the USA are ignorant when it comes to the nuances of internet culture. One of those nuances would be how adults can be fans of media that are traditionally deemed "for children", and they make content surrounding that media that is intended for more mature viewers (like this series). "The Legend of Korra" is rated TV-Y7 under the TV Parental Guidelines. If The Admiral were to mark this series as "not for kids", his videos would be put up for review by the FTC. All those crusty old white men would see is The Admiral talking about an animated TV show that's rated as "for children", and the entire ship would be in massive trouble if the FTC were to disagree with The Admiral's assessment of the series' intended age demographic. Let it be known: The Admiral has NOT voluntarily chosen to disable comments on these videos. He is not afraid of criticism. He is not afraid of critical responses to this video series. In fact, he'd be ecstatic to be able to turn comments back on. The Admiral is simply not willing to risk facing a hefty fine should his management of this channel be considered a violation of COPPA. When the dust settles around this drama, perhaps then he may take the calculated risk to change the video to "not for kids". Thank you for understanding. _________________________________________________________________ Once upon a time, The Admiral liked a show called "Avatar: The Last Airbender". Then, he watched the sequel series: "The Legend of Korra"! But before he watched "The Legend of Korra", The Admiral first watched a YouTube video called "The Legend of Korra is Garbage and Here's Why" by Lily Orchard. Now that he's watched both, The Admiral has a long, detailed response to Lily. _________________________________________________________________ So The Admiral uploaded a video before this one, but it almost immediately got taken down by Viacom for copyright infringement. Yikes. The Admiral's journey across the seas of YouTube is off to a bumpy start... but he'll prevail nonetheless! This video is a slightly altered version of the original. Unfortunately, the threat of having this video blocked again has compromised The Admiral's original creative intent with the video, including set-ups to various punchlines. Still, it is hoped that this video will not suffer the same tragic fate as the previous one. Onward! _________________________________________________________________ Welp. The second upload got blocked as well. Funny enough, the segments of the video that got flagged for copyright infringement ALL came from Lily's video. The Admiral wonders why Lily's video isn't getting taken down as well since both videos contain the footage that's setting off Content ID bots. The Admiral worked tirelessly edit the video so that it will sufficiently be covered under Fair Use... Sigh... Onward... _________________________________________________________________ Consider joining the crew today!
